9 May - is the 62 Anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people over the German-fascist invaders. This victory was accomplished due to the advantage of the Soviet people thanks to the socialist system over the capitalist system of capitalist Germany; bravery, courage and steadfastness of the Soviet people and fighters in the Red Army and Red Navy, the partisans, commanders; to the outstanding military skills of the Soviet marshals and generals; to the heroic labour of workers at the rear; to the friendship and brotherliness of the peoples of the USSR. The All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) headed by an outstanding military chief, Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Generalissimo Joseph Vissarionovich STALIN was the organiser and inspirer of the all-people’s struggle for freedom and independence of the socialist motherland.
Today’s powers of Ukraine, Russia and the other republics of the ex-USSR are filling the place with lies and slander against J.V. STALIN, V.I. LENIN, AUCP (b), our Soviet socialist system, with the aim of turning working people’s attention away from their hopeless, criminal, thieving bourgeois policies.
Our achievement, respected veterans of the war, will forever remain in the people’s memory, will serve us, your successors as a shining guiding star in the struggle for the revival of our great Soviet Motherland for the triumph of the ideals of socialism and communism!
We congratulate our readers, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, all Soviet people on the anniversary of the Great Victory!

MAYDAY 2007 IN RUSSIA
May, 1st – is a Day of international solidarity of workers in the struggle for the rights. The 1st of May is not "a holiday of springtime and work" as it is being portrayed by the Russian counterrevolutionary dictatorship of oligarches in encouraging petty-bourgeois moods of the inhabitants.
This year the leftist columns had a lot more workers taking part than usual. It is not connected at all with good weather. Growth of radical moods and all greater sympathy to the left from the wide layers of the population has an effect. The Putin regime understands this, but cannot do anything despite of huge financial investments in the pocket political organizations of "the Soglasniy" (Agreers). From this, the police regime is growing ever more furious and is getting tougher.
The 1st of May if to call this a holiday, is a holiday of struggle and brotherhood of proletarian masses!

THAT IS HOW THE WAR BEGAN
30th November 1933 is a dark day in the history of Germany. The fascists were in power. Hitler had become the fuehrer (leader) and supreme commander in chief of the armed forces. By his words in the First World War, Germany had suffered defeat for the simple reason that it had tried to seize colonies belonging to France and Great Britain. In his book “Mein Kampf”, Hitler declared the task not in grabbing colonies but on the endless expansion of Germany to the south and west of Europe and pointing towards the territory located in the east. To the east of Germany were Czechoslovakia, Poland, the Baltic states and the Soviet Union.
1934.
26 January- the signing of the German-Polish non -aggression pact.
8, 27 September - Germany and Poland’s rejection of a proposal by the Soviet Union to sign a treaty on collective security for the countries of Central and South -Eastern Europe.
1938.
17 March - Statement by the government of the USSR condemning the seizing of Austria by German troops and expressing readiness of the Soviet Union to provide assistance to Czechoslovakia in the case of aggression on part of Germany.
20 September - Agreement by Poland and Germany on carrying out agreed military action against Czechoslovakia.
For providing assistance to the people of Czechoslovakia, the Soviet Union in the western border regions introduced military readiness of 7 reinforced districts, 30 rifle and 10 Calvary divisions, a tank corps and 12 air brigades. In the district at the heart of the country, a second echelon of troops was prepared consisting 30 rifle and 6 Calvary divisions, 2 tank corps, 15 tank brigades, 34 air bases. Around 330 thousand reserves were called up for the Red Army from the command, political and rank and file, the resignation of tens of thousands of young commander placed on hold having served their set period of service.
29 -30 September - The signing by representatives of Britain, France, Germany and Italy at a conference in Munchen, of an agreement on the division of territory of Czechoslovakia between Germany, Poland and Hungary. This actually meant the handing over to Hitler the key for unleashing the Second World War. Besides, in 1938 Germany had 47 divisions, Czechoslovakia - 45. In the struggle against the invaders, the Czechoslovakian army could use border reinforcements which were significantly better than the French Mazhino Line and the Finnish Mannerheim Line. The Czechoslovakian government had the chance, relying on its own people and support of the Soviet Union to reject the demands for surrender to Germany. But this did not happen.
30 September- The signing of the Anglo-German treaty of non-aggression .
1 -10 October - Occupation by Germany and Poland of border areas of Czechoslovakia. In the light of the fact that the government of Czechoslovakia agreed to the Munchen diktat, a part of the Red Army found in western border after 25 October were returned to areas of permanent stationing .
6 December - Signing of the French - German non-aggression pact .
1939
15 March - Occupation of the entire territory of Czechoslovakia by German troops. The German top brass, having visited the Czech border defences were amazed at their strength. Former defence minister A. Schpeer remembers how when test firing was underway that the weapons that were to be used against them were ineffective. Hitler personally went to the former border in order to gain an impression about these defences and returned quite shaken. The chief of German staff of the supreme command, general -field marshal V. Keitel at the Nuremburg process declared that if it was not for the Munchen agreement, “we would have under no circumstances used military action. We did not have enough strength to force the Czechoslovakian line defences.” One can add to these words that if the Czechoslovakian government of Benesh had not have surrendered the country without a fight, than the Germans would have had to create their own powerful artillery and prepare the army for difficult offensive operations And possibly, for a lengthy war. (If this had taken them 2 years, then Germany would have not attacked the Soviet Union in 1941 but in 1943. And in these extra two years the Red Army would have been equipped with the latest tanks, aircraft and self-propelled artillery units (SAU). In the German Army such units were called storm weapons. Some examples. In July 1940 from the gates of the factory rolled out the first T-34 tank, becoming the best medium tank in the II World War. In this year the KV-1 (“Klim Voroshilov“) heavy tank began rolling off the production line. In 1943 at the front entered the best heavy tank of the WW II - the (“JV - Joseph Stalin”). In 1943 the army was equipped with the mightiest self-propelled artillery unit in the world - the ISU -152 (weight of projectile- 48 kg). On 21 June 1941 a few hours before the start of the Great Patriotic War, a decision was adopted to serially produce rocket propelled mortars - the glorious multi-rail “katyush”. The armoured car BM-13 had 16 guides (firing range 8470m, weight of projectile - 42 kg). In 1942 fighter planes La-5 and Yak-3 were build and in 1943 - the Yak -9 and Tu-2 were built.
11 may - Rejection by Poland of a proposal by the USSR for military aid in case of aggression on part of Germany.
12-21 August - Talks held between the USSR, Britain and France in Moscow held on signing a treat on mutual aid in case of aggression. But it was not signed. Since the ruling circles of Britain and France were interested not in the treaty but in encouraging Hitler to invade eastern lands.
23 August - Signing of the Soviet -German non-aggression pact . To reject Germany’s proposal would have been the greatest mistake. In 1931.speaking at the All-Union Conference of industrial workers, J. Stalin said: “We are lagging behind the advanced countries by 50 - 100 years. We must close this gap in 10 yeas. Either we do this or we shall be swallowed up by them.” A decade still had not passed. Soviet people worked on the fulfilling of the third 5-year plan of developing the national economy (1938- 1942). The country needed peace. Knowing that the Germans had concentrated scores of divisions on the Polish border, and Poland having refused Soviet assistance, would be defeated, Stalin before signing the treaty put forth conditions:
- Germany will not attack the Baltic states and Finland;
- During the German-Polish war, the Red Army will enter the territory of Western Ukraine and Western Belorussia;
- Germany will not obstruct the return of Bessarabia to the Soviet Union.
- Berlin agreed. The leadership of the AUCP(b) understood that war with Germany was inevitable and did everything in order to delay military action.
1 September - Germany attack Poland.
3 September - The start of the Second World War. This is explained by the fact that Poland’s allies - Britain and France declared war against Germany. They declared war but did not move not one division not one inch to help their ally. The rulers of Britain and France were interested not so much in Poland but in that day when Germany would attack the Soviet Union. And although the Poles put up massive resistance to the enemy, the supremacy was held by the fascists.
16 September - The Polish government escapes to Romania. Central government of the country ceases to exist.
17 September- Part of the Red Army having entered the territory of Western Ukraine and Western Belorussia liberated the population of these lands from 18 - year Polish occupation.
After Poland was defeated in 27 days, the leaders of the Baltic states could see clearly that in order to save themselves form the aggressor they would have to find themselves a reliable ally.
28 September, 5 and 10 October- The signing of the treaty of mutual assistance between the USSR, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
17 -21 July- The formation of people’s governments in the Baltic states. On their request, part of the Red Army were sent into Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Film chronicles bear witness to the fact that: the population of the republic welcomed the Soviet troops with flowers.
28 - 30 July - The rejoining of Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina with the Soviet Union (Northern Bukovina is the historical name of Chernivitskaya Region of the Ukrainian SSR).
21 July - 6 August- The revival of Soviet power in the Baltic republics and the acceptance of them in to the makeup of the USSR. This meant that those lands which Russia obtained from Sweden forever, were returned to those ancestors who had gained victory in the 20 year Northern War. It may be noted in passing that in 1945, historical justice triumphed in the Far East also - Russian land was returned to the Soviet Union - the Kuril Islands, that had been occupied by Japan (in 1875) and South Sakhalin (in 1905).
18 December- The signing by Hitler of Directive No 121 on war against the Soviet Union (Operation “Barbarossa”). By the way, Frederick I of Barbarossa (around 1125-1190) was a German king and emperor of the “Sacred Roman” empire from 1152. The thought behind the plan was: a lightening - blitzkrieg defeat of the main forces of the Red Army, an exit onto the Arkhangelsk-Volga-Astrakhan line and end the war in 2 -3 months. In 1938 - 1941, Germany had occupied 12 European states. By way of seizing industry and reserves of strategic raw materials of other countries, the fascists had created powerful armed forces. From the table it is clear that during the war, not counting the losses, the enemy continued to grow in strength. (see table).
80 million Germans and 250 million from the allies fought against 194 million citizens of the USSR. In order to defeat such a strong enemy needed 1418 days and nights of brutal battles. Prophetic words spoken by Stalin in 1941: “Our cause is right. The enemy will be defeated. Victory will be with us”. The Red Army brought this to life. Sink it into oblivion of a century but the memory will never be erased of the great Soviet people and their Armed Forces who saved humanity from the threat of fascist enslavement.
Notes:
1. After the overthrowing of the Kerensky government of A. Kerensky who expressed the interests of the bourgeoisie, the Civil War in Russia (from October 1917 till October 1922) flowed into a national-liberation war against the interventionists of 14 states (from June 1918 till the end of 1920). Making use of this situation, Polish troops occupied nearly the whole of Belorussia and a part of Ukraine. In May 1920, the Poles seized Kiev. The Red Army under the command of M. Tukhachevsky crossing over onto the counter-offensive and arrived in Warsaw. But due to incorrect evaluation of the strengths of the enemy - suffered defeat. In 1921, in Riga a peace treaty was signed by which Western Ukraine and Western Belorussia went to Poland. Such was the price for our defeat. Here we shall note that in an article published in newspaper “Pravda”, Stalin made a proposal that the Red Army attack not up to Warsaw, but only up to the Kerzon line (D. Kerzon - Minister for Foreign Affairs for Britain in 1919 - 1924). The “Kerzon line” was an agreed upon name of the line which was recommended in 1919 by the Supreme Council of the Antante as the boundary between Poland, Ukraine and Belorussia. (In August 1945 this line was laid in the basis of the Soviet - Polish treaty about the border).
2. Lithuanian in 1795 - 1811 was part of Russia. At the end of 1918 to the start of 1919, Soviet power was established throughout the country. After the attack by the German troops, units of the red army left Lithuania. From 1926 it was a bourgeois republic.
3. Latvia in 1721 and 1795 was part of Russia. At the end of 1918 to the start of 1919 Soviet power was established throughout the country. From 1920 it was a bourgeois republic.
4. Estonia in 1791was part of Russia. In November 1918 Soviet had been established throughout the country. From May 1919 it was a bourgeois republic.
5. Bessarabia is a historical area between the Dnepr and Prut rivers In the X - XI centuries it was part of Kievsky Rus. Later it was in the Galitsko-Volynsky and Moldovan principalities, from the XI century, under Turkish rule. In 1812 was part of Russia , Romania occupied Bessarabia.
Spiteful critics screech out: “The Soviet government signed a pact. With whom? With the fascists”. The Poles, British and French can sign, but we you see, cannot. Not the refusal , but namely the signing of the Soviet-German treaty was the first step on the path towards our victory. Facts bear witness:
1. In 1939 the Soviet Union had not one ally besides Mongolia which itself needed our protection.
2. The significance of the treaty was so great that the sighing of it took place in those days when in Mongolia (in Khalkhin-Hol), Soviet troops under the command of G. Zhukov went to battle against the Japanese invaders. The Soviet Union stood in front of a real threat on two fronts: in the West - with Germany, in the East - with Japan. And if Zhukov suffers defeat (like it happened with Tukhachevsky), then Japan would have seized the Far East, and Turkey would have sided with Germany. And then there would have not have been two fronts, but three (after the battle of Stalingrad, Japan and Turkey rejected their intentions of come out against the USSR).
3. The signing of the treaty gave an almost two year gap from an attack from Germany. This allowed us to solve problems on the country’s defence capability , the construction of enterprises- doubles in the Ural mountains, in Siberia, Podvolzh’e (Volga region) and Central Asia. For the 3.5 years of the pre-war five-year plan, the output of defence products annually grew an average by 39%. By 1940, the GDP in the Soviet Union of all industry grew to the level of 1913 by 7 times, major industry - by 12 times. The backward Russia of chintz became an industrial country. Here is why the economic fundament built under the leadership of Stalin brought about victory in the Great Patriotic War.
4. Thanks to the pact, the Soviet Union possessed strategic positions in the Baltic states. Behind these positions Peter I was at war with Sweden for 20 years (The Northern War- 1700 -1721). The cause of the war. Russia had been squeezed out of the Baltic lands, Sweden, having gained victory over Denmark, The German states and Poland. Fighting for the return of Russian lands, Russia began searching for an exit into the Baltic Sea. In 1701, in Livonia (Estonia) the commander of the corps of B. Sheremyetev defeated the Swedish troops a and for which he was awarded the title of Field Marshal soon after he took by storm the ancient Russian towns of Koporye, Yam and Derpta (Derpta - this was Yuryev, founded by the Kiev prince Yaroslavl the Wise I in 1030, nowadays the Estonian town of Tartu). When storming Marienburg (nowadays Aluksne, Latvia), Marta Skavronskaya was taken prisoner (future empress Ekaterina I). In 1702, Peter began personally command the military operations. As a result of the victories, all the lands along the Neva were returned to Russia. In 1703, Peter founds Saint Petersburg, and after a year takes Narva, builds the Kronstadt fortress (Narva in the Russian chronicles is well known since 1171 under the name Rugodiv). Under the command of Peter, important victories were achieved by Lesnaya (1708) and in the battle of Poltavsky (1709). More than 22 thousand Swedish prisoners of war taken prisoner in these battles were marched along the streets of Moscow (17 July 1945 58 thousand German prisoners of war were marched along the streets of the capital, led by 19 Generals). In 1710, Russian armies took Riga, Vyborg, Revel and Keksgolm. Vyborg was founded in XII century by Novgorod inhabitants. Revel is well know in Russian chronicles form 1154 under the name of Kolyvan, nowadays the capital of Estonia, Tallinn. Keksgolm - nowadays Priozerzk in Leningrad region. In 1714 a fleet of 15 sailing ships under the command of Peter, and a paddle fleet of 99 vessels under the command of Admiral -General F. Apraksin defeated the large Swedish squadron by the cape of Gangut. This battle was the first major victory of the Russian fleet at sea. Russia had established its rule in the Gulf of Finland. In 1720, the fleet under the command of Field marshal -General M. Gallitzin defeated a Swedish squadron in the Gulf of Botnichesky. In 1791 in Nishtadt a peace treaty was signed between Sweden and Russia. The treaty envisaged the complete and permanent possession of Ingermanlandy (the territory along the banks of River Neva and the entire south-west of Priladozhe), part of Karelia, all of Estlyandy (Northern Estonia)s, all of Liflyandy (Southern Estonia and Northern Latvia) including towns of Riga, Vyborg, Revel, Derpta, Narva, Keksgolm , the islands of Ezel, Dago, Moon. In honour of victory over Sweden, the Senate awarded peter the title : “the Father of the Fatherland, Peter the Great, the Emperor of All-Russia”.
Thanks to the far-sightedness of Stalin, the Germans having been deprived of the Baltic launch platform, were compelled to fight their way towards Leningrad and Moscow along another routes. If Peter I carried on a 20-year war for a strategic position in the Baltics, then Stalin had these positions without a fight. Fir that, he was an outstanding statesman. This is why enemies of Soviet power judging the activity of Stalin said: “A great man. There were two such men: Peter the Great and Him. Both made Russia a power” (A. Kerensky, chairman of the Provisional Government of Russia in 1917), and also Winston Churchill - British Prime Minister 1940-45 and 1951 - 55 said the following about Stalin: “It was great luck for Russia that in the years of the biggest ordeals, genius and unshakable Marshal J.V. Stalin led the country. He was an outstanding individual… a man of extraordinary energy, intuition and unbending willpower… This strength was so great in Stalin that he seemed unique among the leaders and times and peoples…He took Russia from the wooden plough and left equipped with a nuclear weapon.” W. Churchill, prime Minister of Britain in 1940-1945, 1951 -1955).
The Soviet-German pact signed and to last for 10 years was published in newspapers o 24 August 1939. One often hears: “Well, why wasn’t the additional protocol published? Because in any country, a state secret is declassified only as decades, depending on the internal and international situation.
1. The additional secret protocol was published in Russia in 1992, that is, 53 years after its signing.
2. In July 1942, Britain and the US declared their intention to open a second front in the following year. On the 27 June out of Spain to the Soviet Union convoy No 17 was sent made up of 35 transporters, 2 tankers and 24 ships to safeguard passage. The main enemy of their fleet the British believed to be the German battleship “Tirpitz” (it had 52 guns, torpedo apparatus and 4 hydroplanes). Having found out that on 4 July a German submarine had sunk a transporters, the British admiral D. Pound, ignoring sound advice sent two radiograms: “To the cruisers. Full speed, turn West”, “In light of the threat of surface ships, the convoy should disperse and bound for Soviet ports”. On 5 July, a Soviet submarine under the command of N. Lunin struck the “Tirpitz” with a torpedo. Having been damaged, the battleship together with the remaining German ships returned to their own bases. But the order given out by Admiral Pound was not cancelled. The ship used to provide safe passage for the convoy returned to Britain. Small groups of ships and lone vessels became victims of attacks by fascist planes and submarines. 23 transport ship were sunk. And together with them 210 bombers, 430 tanks and 3350 autos went to the bottom of the sea. Was this an accident, allowing the wrecking of the convoy? The answer we find in the words of V. Mayakovsky: “Politics - simple. Just like a gulp of water. On 18 July Britain declared a temporary halt to supplies to the USSR for the simple reason that the North Sea route was too dangerous for convoys. On 25 July, Britain and the US took a decision to alter the date for opening the second front in Europe. It will be opened in June 1944 when it became clear that the Soviet Union can alone defeat Germany. The governments of Britain and the US kept delaying the opening of a second front, being led by the aims of their own policies: to achieve the exhaustion of the Soviet Union and Germany that would them to establish their own domination in Europe. The classic expression of this policy was in the words of US senator Truman , president of the USA 1945 -1953: “If we that see that Germany wins, then we will have to help Russia, but Russia wins, then we will have to help Germany, thus, let them kill as many as possible. In the war years, Churchill was head of the government, minister for defence and headed the war cabinet. Could admiral Pound have sent these radiograms to the death for the convoys without Churchill’s permission? 64 years have passed since the day of the defeat of convoy No 17, but the role of Churchill in this question continues to remain a secret.
3. Rudolf Hess from 1936 was party deputy to Hitler. In 1939 the fuehrer declared him as his successor (after Gering). It was important to Hitler that he knew: what position Britain would occupy in the immanent German-Soviet war. In May 1941, Hess flew to Britain. The fact that Hitler and Churchill held secret talks was known to the chief of German counter-intelligence, V. Schelenberg. According to him, in the letters by Hess to his wife, there were coded messages that Hitler could understand. And since protocols of the conversations were never published, then leading Russian historian Yuri Mukhin allows that there was an agreement reached on these following questions: “If Britain will observe neutrality, then after the destruction of the Soviet Union, it will receive from Germany some territory from the lands seized. If Britain becomes an ally of the USSR then it will not hurry to open up a second front”. And that is exactly what happened. And in order for a second front not to be opened until the middle of 1944, the destruction of convoy No17 was planned with this aim in mind. By decision of the British government, the protocols of the conversations with Hess are to be declassified in 2017. Thus, it turns out that the truth about a plot between Hitler and Churchill would have only be known by people after 76 years.

"National project" No1
The fuss about so-called " national projects ", organized by the counterrevolutionary Putin regime, initially was the populism wrapped up in virtue.
Especially well it is visible if one is to peer at reality, by tearing oneself away from the prevailing state and near-state mass media, and not listening to the demagogy of the president of the bourgeois Russian Federation. It is good in this connection to look at the life of the support pillars of the president - the oligarchs and their ilk with them.
And they exercise their wit in entertainments and luxury. They strut about spending money stolen from the people. Lately among the Russian oligarchs, it has become the fashion to get on the guest list of private parties "world-famous pop-stars". Especially often, it is possible to meet overseas celebrities in country houses situated near Moscow during New Year's holidays. How much money is spent by the oligarchs for such entertainments, is as a rule, kept a secret, but from time to time this information all the same filters into the mass-media.
So, George Michael, according to the British newspapers, received for a performance at a country party at Vladimir Potanin's of one and a half million pounds. The New Year's show took place in Potanin's estate near Moscow. The sports hall was converted for this occasion into a nightclub, and could contain nearly 300 fakes of the oligarchs. The Gay-star, arriving in Moscow by private jet in the company of friend Kenny Gossa and 20 musicians and backing -vocalists, carried out the program of his recent European tour. One and a half million pounds, or over three million dollars which were received by George Michael, is, probably, the largest fee in the history of Russian show business, the newspaper Guardian remarks.
Before this one of the biggest to visiting "stars" were offered by another Russian oligarch, Suleiman Kerimov. Some time back upon his invitation Shakir and Christina Agilera performed who, according to some information, the oligarch "released" $1 million for the 45-minute show.
All this is happening on the background of monstrous lack of perspectives of the youth, unemployment and poverty. The average young family, wishing to have some children, cannot allow itself of this as there are not enough means even for a tiny three-room apartment. Where the hell is "the solution of the demographic problem ", when there is neither certainty in the morrow, nor a worthy salary or stable work. All these so-called "programs of support" for young families - is all rubbish, since for their realization in practice so many obstacles are created that only a handful of people can really take advantage of them. And those, as angry participants of Internet-forums curse - are kids of officials from "United Russia" party. And their - parents-bourgeoisie- bathe in luxury, spend billions on entertainment, and continue to exploit our natural resources and us. (Natural resources, no less than major means of production, the bourgeoisie had seized as a result of unfair - extortionate "privatisation" of PUBLIC socialist property).
From here it is absolutely clear that to solve the housing problem, no less than the demographic one and many other things connected with them, will be possible only when the bourgeoisie -oligarchic power is overthrown. Only then will it be possible to turn the means from the sale of natural resources (by definition public) into the interests of workers and to put an end to exploitation of a person by a another person.
Therefore we proclaim as a truly peoples, ¡í 1 "national" project a socialist revolution. Down with the bourgeoisie!

Reflections by the Commander in Chief:
IT IS IMPERATIVE TO IMMEDIATELY HAVE AN ENERGY REVOLUTION
I hold nothing against Brazil, even thought to more than a few Brazilians continuously bombarded with the most diverse arguments, which can be confusing even for people who have traditionally been friendly to Cuba, we might sound callous and careless about hurting that country¡¯s net income of hard currency. However, for me to keep silent would be to opt between the idea of a world tragedy and a presumed benefit for the people of that great nation.
I do not blame Lula and the Brazilians for the objective laws which have governed the history of our species. Only seven thousand years have passed since the human being has left his tangible mark on what has come to be a civilization immensely rich in culture and technical knowledge. Advances have not been achieved at the same time or in the same geographical latitudes. It can be said that due to the apparent enormity of our planet, quite often the existence of one or another civilization was unknown. Never in thousands of years had the human being lived in cities with twenty million inhabitants such as Sao Paulo or Mexico City, or in urban communities such as Paris, Madrid, Berlin and others who see trains speeding by on rails and air cushions, at speeds of more than 250 miles an hour.
At the time of Christopher Columbus, barely 500 years ago, some of these cities did not exist or they had populations that did not exceed several tens of thousands. Nobody used one single kilowatt to light their home. Possibly, the population of the world then was not more than 500 million. We know that in 1830, world population reached the first billion mark, one hundred and thirty years later it multiplied by three, and forty-six years later the total number of inhabitants on the planet had grown to 6.5 billion; the immense majority of these were poor, having to share their food with domestic animals and from now on with biofuels.
Humanity did not then have all the advances in computers and means of communication that we have today, even though the first atomic bombs had already been detonated over two large human communities, in a brutal act of terrorism against a defenseless civilian population, for reasons that were strictly political.
Today, the world has tens of thousands of nuclear bombs that are fifty times as powerful, with carriers that are several times faster than the speed of sound and having absolute precision; our sophisticated species could destroy itself with them. At the end of World War II, fought by the peoples against fascism, a new power emerged that took over the world and imposed the absolutist and cruel order under which we live today.
Before Bush¡¯s trip to Brazil, the leader of the empire decided that corn and other foodstuffs would be suitable raw material for the production of biofuels. For his part, Lula stated that Brazil could supply as much biofuel as necessary from sugar cane; he saw in this formula a possibility for the future of the Third World, and the only problem left to solve would be to improve the living conditions of the sugarcane workers. He was well aware ¨Cand he said it-- that the United States should in turn lift the custom tariffs and the subsidies affecting ethanol exports to that country.
Bush replied that custom tariffs and subsidies to the growers were untouchable in a country such as the United States, which is the first world producer of ethanol from corn.
The large American transnationals, which produce this biofuel investing tens of billion dollars at an accelerated pace, had demanded from the imperial leader the distribution in the American market of no less than thirty-five billions (35,000,000,000) of gallons of this fuel every year. The combination of protective tariffs and real subsidies would raise that figure to almost one hundred billion dollars each year.
Insatiable in its demand, the empire had flung into the world the slogan of producing biofuels in order to liberate the United States, the world¡¯s supreme energy consumer, from all external dependency on hydrocarbons.
History shows that sugar as a single crop was closely associated with the enslaving of Africans, forcibly uprooted from their natural communities, and brought to Cuba, Haiti and other Caribbean islands. In Brazil, the exact same thing happened in the growing of sugar cane.
Today, in that country, almost 80% of sugar cane is cut by hand. Sources and studies made by Brazilian researchers affirm that a sugarcane cutter, a piece-work laborer, must produce no less than twelve tons in order to meet basic needs. This worker needs to perform 36,630 flexing movements with his legs, make small trips 800 times carrying 15 kilos of cane in his arms and walk 8,800 meters in his chores. He loses an average of 8 liters of water every day. Only by burning cane can this productivity per man be achieved. Cane cut by hand or by machines is usually burned to protect people from nasty bites and especially to increase productivity. Even though the established norm for a working day is from 8 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon, this type of piece-work cane cutting tends to go on for a 12 hour working day. The temperature will at times rise to 45 degrees centigrade by noon.
I have cut cane myself more than once as a moral duty, as have many other comrade leaders of the country. I remember August of 1969. I chose a place close to the capital. I moved there very early every day. It was not burned cane but green cane, an early variety and high in agricultural and industrial yield. I would cut for four hours non-stop. Somebody else would be sharpening the machete. I consistently produced a minimum of 3.4 tons per day. Then I would shower, calmly have some lunch and take a break in a place nearby. I earned several coupons in the famous harvest of 1970. I had just turned 43 then. The rest of the time, until bedtime, I worked at my revolutionary duties. I stopped my personal efforts after I wounded my left foot. The sharpened machete had sliced through my protective boot. The national goal was 10 million tons of sugar and approximately 4 million tons of molasses as by-product. We never reached that goal, although we came close.
The USSR had not disappeared; that seemed impossible. The Special Period, which took us to a struggle for survival and to economic inequalities with their inherent elements of corruption, had not yet begun. Imperialism believed that the time had come to finish off the Revolution. It is also fair to recognize that during years of bonanza we wasted resources and our idealism ran high along with the dreams accompanying our heroic process.
The great agricultural yields of the United States were achieved by rotating the gramineae (corn, wheat, oats, millet and other similar grains) with the legumes (soy, alfalfa, beans, etc.). These contribute nitrogen and organic material to the soil. The corn crop yield in the United States in 2005, according to FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) data was 9.3 tons per hectare.
In Brazil they only obtain 3 tons of this same grain in the same area. The total production registered by this sister nation that year was thirty-four million six hundred thousand tons, consumed internally as food. It cannot contribute corn to the world market.
The prices for this grain, the staple diet in numerous countries of the region, have almost doubled. What will happen when hundreds of millions of tons of corn are redirected towards the production of biofuel? And I rather not mention the amounts of wheat, millet, oats, barley, sorghum and other cereals that industrialized countries will use as a source of fuel for its engines.
Add to this that it is very difficult for Brazil to rotate corn and legumes. Of the Brazilian states traditionally producing corn, eight are responsible for ninety percent of production: Paran¨¢, Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo, Goi¨¢s, Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina y Mato Grosso do Sul. On the other hand, 60% of sugarcane production, a grain that cannot be rotated with other crops, takes place in the state of Sao Paulo, and also in the states of Paran¨¢, Pernambuco and Alagoas.
The engines of tractors, harvesters and the heavy machinery required to mechanize the harvest would use growing amounts of hydrocarbons. The increase of mechanization would not help in the prevention of global warming, something which has been proven by experts who have measured annual temperatures for the last 150 years.
Brazil does produce an excellent food that is especially rich in protein: soy, fifty million one hundred and fifteen thousand (50,115,000) tons. It consumes almost 23 million tons and exports twenty-seven million three hundred thousand (27,300,000). Is it perhaps that a large part of this soy will be converted to biofuel?
As it is, the producers of beef cattle are beginning to complain that grazing land is being transformed into sugarcane fields.
The former Agriculture Minister of Brazil, Roberto Rodrigues, an important advocate for the current government position, --and today a co-president of the Inter American Ethanol Commission created in 2006 following an agreement with the state of Florida and the Inter American Development Bank (IDB) to promote the use of biofuel on the American continent-- declared that the program to mechanize the sugarcane harvest does not create more jobs, but on the contrary it would produce a surplus of non-qualified manpower.
We know that the poorest workers from various states are the ones who gravitate towards cane cutting out of necessity. Sometimes, they must spend many months away from their families. That is what happened in Cuba until the triumph of the Revolution, when the cutting and hauling of sugarcane was done by hand, and mechanized cultivation or transportation hardly existed. With the demise of the brutal system forced on our society the cane-cutters, massively taught to read and write, abandoned their wanderings in a few years and it became necessary to replace them with hundreds of thousands of voluntary workers.
Add to this the latest report by the United Nations about climate change, affirming what would happen in South America with the water from the glaciers and the Amazon water basin as the temperature of the atmosphere continue to rise.
Nothing could prevent American and European capital from funding the production of biofuels. They could even send the funds as gifts to Brazil and Latin America. The United States, Europe and the other industrialized countries would save more than one hundred and forty billion dollars each year, without having to worry about the consequences for the climate and the hunger which would affect the countries of the Third World in the first place. They would always be left with enough money for biofuels and to acquire the little food available on the world market at any price.
It is imperative to immediately have an energy revolution that consists not only in replacing all the incandescent light bulbs, but also in massively recycling all domestic, commercial, industrial, transport and socially used electric appliances that require two and three times more energy with their previous technologies.
It hurts to think that 10 billion tons of fossil fuel is consumed every year. This means that each year we waste what it took nature a million years to create. National industries are faced with enormous challenges, including the reduction of unemployment. Thus we could gain a bit of time.
Another risk of a different nature facing the world is an economic recession in the United States. In the past few days, the dollar has broken records at losing value. On the other hand, every country has most of its reserves in convertible currencies precisely in this paper currency and in American bonds.
Tomorrow, May Day is a good day to bring these reflections to the workers and to all the poor people of the world. At the same time we should protest against something incredible and humiliating that has just occurred: the liberation of a terrorist monster, exactly when we are celebrating the 46th Anniversary of the Revolutionary Victory at the Bay of Pigs.

THE MONEY SENT BY CHAVEZ HAS BEEN STOLEN!
The naive philistine was counting on that order made by Hugo Chavez for the manufacture of ??-10-s for the Venezuelan army, in assisting the Izhevsk small-arms factory update its equipment, increase worker salaries, liquidate delays in payment of salaries and remove the threat of dismissals. But everything has been ruined.
Pitiful peanuts
As it became known, more than 50 % of the entire sum sent to Russia from South America, never made it to Izhevsk, but went to Moscow. The money went personally to Putin and his circle. 20 % was snapped up by the general director of "Izhmash" Mr Grodetsky. 10 % of all the Venezuelan money went to the president of Udmurtiya, Mr Volkov. 5-6 % were received by the shopfloor managment. And yet a portion of this sum of money went missing and is not known where. And what was left over for the factory which produces automatic weapons? Less than 1 %. Pitiful peanuts!
Maximum profit with minimum of expenses
There can now be no talk of updating machine tools and all the factory equipment. Meanwhile it has not had any capital repair for more than 20 years. For an illustration it is possible to show such an example. One day, workers repaired equipment that was completely worn out . They came across an old machine tool. On its bed could be seen the year «1898» . The foremen, grinning, told the workers: change the «8» to a «9» and the repair is finished! In some shopfloors of the factory, workers work on machine tools of the 1920-s, during the Stalin period. The equipment which was produced until 1953, was of high quality, reliable, but it not everlasting. Repair is carried roughly and hastily. The cracked machine tool is welded up by welding equipment. The managment tries to prolong somehow the operation of "sick and lame", clapped out collapsing equipment, so as not to buy new equipment and to not incur losses. Thus workers are forced to work more intensively. Some people do the work of two or three people in place of those who have been dismissed. They do the work of three people but the salary they receive, is for one! In a word, once again the law deduced by Marx is justified : the bourgeoisie needs maximum profit at a minimum of expenses.
The influence of the order made for weapons by Chavez, is being felt only by the fact that dismissals from the factory have been temporarily suspended. But only for a short while only. As soon as the required number of weapons have been produced for that order, once again the bourgoesie will start to throw out workers from "Izhmash" weapons factory.
"Florets" and "little berries"
But the situation at the small-arms factory and "Stankostroy" machine factory is still "florets. "Little berries" at the motorcycle manufacturing plant. The production line stands idle, the equipment is being taken out. The conveyors have been cut up and have been sent to the dump, as scrap metal. There is now only one small conveyor. Motor-manufacturing in Izhevsk is near death. The production of the well-known "Izh" has almost stopped, though there are orders from Cuba, from Iran, Pakistan and Mongolia. Who does this disorder benefit? Only the bourgeoisie. They understand, that workers – are their main enemy, therefore use their best efforts for the destruction of proletarian collectives at factories.
The Bolsheviks of Izhevsk according to strength, carry out a campaign of agitation at "Izhmash", explaining to the workers the essence of the state of affairs. We struggle against dependant psychology of workers, some of which still hope like under Brezhnev for a kind "uncle" who will assist them. Only many now forget, that "uncle" is now the bad capitalist, striving to exploit the worker. Now like never before, the words from "International" are actual:
"No saviour from on high delivers, No faith have we in prince or peer.
Our own right hand the chains must shiver,
Chains of hatred, greed and fear.
We call on workers to struggle by strikes for improvement of working conditions. We try to explain, that only a socialist revolution with the most active participation of workers can liquidate all the above listed capitalist disgraces.
Party of traitors
Everything would be easier if it were not for the conciliatory, treacherous role of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF). At "Izhmash", there are enough of members of this party, but they do nothing in order for the working class to follow the path of struggle against capitalism. There are no protest actions, and strikes organized by the Zyganovites (KPRF). The opportunists powder the brains of the workers, again preparing them for useless elections, pushing them away from the path of revolutionary struggle. The parties "United Russia" and the Communist Party of the Russian Federation are the two main supports of the Putinist bourgeois regime which has stolen from Izhevsk workers the money of Hugo Chavez!
