SEAMEN GAIN VICTORY!
The crew of the cargo ship “Gagarin” received their wages after 6 months of wage arrears and successfully abandoned ship. Out of the 9 crew members on board the ship, only the captain remains. The seamen received full payment, and then went home. The reluctance by the seamen to continue work on this vessel is understandable – the seamen were owed 6 months pay of more than 34 thousand US dollars, and they need to feed their families. The entire crew of “Gagarin” joined a union. Partly due to the union, the crew managed to get back the wages owed to them. Now, the seamen in future will have to carefully study the contract and apply changes when they choose a vessel to work on. Let us remind ourselves that on 21 May in Kerch, the crew of the cargo ship “Gagarin” went on strike and blocked the ship in port with the demand that 6 months wage arrears be paid to them. The vessel, flying under the flag of Sierra –Leone entered Kerch (Crimea) for repair after taking in water due to a damaged hull in a number of places after a winter crossing, hitting ice in the Azov Sea. In the icy waters, the crew of nine fought to keep the vessel afloat for 1.5 hours. The crew did not receive any gratitude from the vessel’s owner, let alone their salaries for keeping the “rust bucket” afloat. The vessel was impounded, the owner fined and the seamen ended up living of money borrowed from their relatives. Found on the roadstead without fuel on board, the people were awaiting food for nearly two weeks. When the last of the fuel was used up, they prepared food in a brazier right on the deck itself.
The Greek vessel-owner repeatedly pledged the crew he would send a replacement vessel and settle all accounts with the crew. The last of such promises was made in mid-May. The seamen turned for help to the Kerch union of trade and fishing workers. After this, the crew made a decision to take strike action and not allow the repairmen onto the vessel right even if it meant the complete sinking of the cargo ship.

All Railway Workers- Go on an All-Russia Strike!
An All-Russia protest by “Russian Railway” workers may take place on 17 June. The chairman of the Russian Union of Locomotive Brigades of Rail Workers, Yevgeny Kulikov declared that a strike will take place if the management of “Russian Railways” refuses to hold talks with the union. Talks between the chief of RR Vladimir Yakunin and the chairman of the Amalgamation of Trades Unions of Russia “Sotsprof” Sergey Vostrestov were designated for 2 June. “Sotsprof” will represent the interests of the RULBRW. The main demand of the unions is the inclusion of the RULBRW in the makeup of the negotiators when preparing the collective employment contract with the railway monopolist. This allows for true influencing on pay increases for the workers of the locomotive brigades.
Like Yevgeny Kulikov said, if on the 2 June talks end in failure to reach agreement then a meeting of Rail Workers will be held in Moscow on the 16 June, at which the start of another protests by drivers will be announced. According to the words of the leader of the RULBRW, the strike, if it takes place, will take place right across Russia. A number of regions and republics have already declared their support to the Moscow drivers. A number of protesting rail workers can replace the representatives of no less than ten regions: Moscow and Moscow region, Leningrad, Permskaya region, Voronezhskaya region, Kurskaya region, Sverdlovkskaya region, Khakasy, Buryaty, Yakutya. The Sverdlovsk rail workers are too, ready to take strike action. The demands remain the same – the workers get a pay increase in order to once again get paid the right increase for length of service, which was abolished last year. “People are demanding an end to discrimination for being union member. On 16 June, the Sverdlovsk rail workers- union members will take part in a meeting by the building of the Open Society “Russian Railways” in Moscow”, said chairman of the Sverdlovsk branch of the RULBRW, Alexander Volegov. Let us remind ourselves that on 24 April, 14 locomotive brigades of two Moscow depots – “Pushkino” and “Zheleznodorozhnya” refused to drive a train. Due to this, the timetable for 26 suburban trains was disrupted in the Yaroslavl and Gorky route directions. The Moscow rail workers demanded an increase in pay. They decided to continue the protest despite the passing down by the prosecutor for transport of a warning about the consequences for a decision taken to stop work. The decision to down tool was taken by the primary organization of the RULBRW. It is clear that talks with Yakunin will break down. He will drag the talks out. The railway workers should be now taking the firm decision take All-Russia strike action. Otherwise, time will be missed and the demands will not be met in full. The AUCPB will support decisive action by the railway workers.
Local population in Makhachal block road in protest at power cuts.
People living along one of the main streets in Makhachal (Dagestan) on Friday evening blocked the movement of transport on a road leading into the town as a sign of protest against power cuts. The reason for the protests by the Mahachalites was because of the electricity supply being cut off in the district where the main road runs. The people living in that district numbering about 100 – 150 did not just block the road resulting in the forming of large tailbacks, but they also expressed their anger in a fairly active form – by burning tyres and wooden boards directly on the road.

Again striking workers in Donetsk!
A certain Donetsk company and its daughter structures have been embroiled in the centre of a scandal. According to information from sources from inside the company itself, on 19 May a strike took place by workers of Open Society Grniko-Don with the demand to get paid all wage arrears. The drivers of the rubbish bin lorries refused to carry out their duties and remove the town’s rubbish.
Chaos at “Izhmash”
At machine building plant “Stankostroye”, another management has appeared at the tool shops and cast iron mould shop, and are introducing their own order which are in essence a mockery. The supervisors shout at the workers. If a worker sits down to rest even for a minute, then a command follows: “Get up! Work! I don’t pay you to sit!” With all this, in a number of shops, the workers’ wages are in arrears by up to a month. There have been many lay offs in weapons production. It often happens that there is nobody to work. So they put people transferred from areas of production to work at machines. It is ridiculous. There are never any machine cleaners. There are many defects that arise from this. Brutal discipline is introduced like that of fascist concentration camps. For the sake of profits, the bourgeoisie are prepared to do anything even up to completely destroying production. But the workers’ patience is fast running out.
Trolleybus drivers’ strike
On 13 May in Suma in Ukraine, strike action prevented any of the town’s trolleybuses from going out on route. The drivers from the collective of the communal enterprise “Elektoavtotrans” took strike action over 3 months wage arrears. The mayor of Sum, who came to the depot pledged to call a special meeting for 14 May in order to allocate from the budget enough money to pay in full the salaries owing to the drivers. After this, the drivers voted to take strike action until this meeting had approved the decision to allocate money. All 43 trolleybuses were kept at the depot. The workers at the depot refuse to work for nothing. They have not been paid since February and have had to economize on everything to the detriment of their children’s health and their own health. Some drivers fainted at the wheel were carted off in an “ambulance”. And recently, one of the drivers died. In the end, the people had enough and then went on strike.

Workers of the Vishersky paper mill block road!
Despite the number of hunger strikes and pledges made by the authorities, workers at a factory going bankrupt were unable to get their wages that were owed to them for a long time. Therefore, recently they blocked the Krasnovishirsk - Solikamsk main highway (Permskaya region) in the 5 km district demanding an end to their wage arrears. The main group of organizers were pushed away by the riot police. Scores were then arrested.the remaining picketers marched off to the mayor’s office. We remember that the workers of OOO “Vishersky paper mill” since the end of December 2007 several times began and ended a hunger strike because of wage arrears. According to data by the Perm Krai council of trades unions, since May 2006 until January 2007, and from September until December 2007, the company – bankrupt, was owing its workers more than 28 million rubles. Every time, protests were stopped after usual promises by the authorities and management of the mill were made in order to solve the problem. After the hunger strike and pickets were announced by the workers, a part of their wage arrears were paid to them, with the pledge to pay them rest of it in early April but failed to do so. This is why the workers took the action they did and blocked the road.
Workers of a locomotive depot in Azerbaizhan go on strike.
On 2 May, workers at the production amalgamation “Lokomotiv” in the village of Bilyadzhara voted in favour of strike action over pay. The train drivers refuse to work until their demand for higher pay has been met. Driver Akhmed Ukhurov noted that two months ago, the management announced a pay rise but failed to enact their promise. According to him, the drivers, receiving at present 130 manats can only just make ends meet.

Meetings and demonstrations take place in Izhevsk
Today in Izhevsk a demonstration and a meeting of protest took place against the policy of the Russian government. In the “red” column of demonstrators were many young people. The Izhevsk Bolsheviks marched under the portrait of Stalin and agitated for socialism. The appeasers – Zyuganovites and especially Mr Bodrov did everything in their strength to make the demonstration and meeting as short as possible. Parallel to the “red” column marched the treacherous official trades unions headed by chatterbox Orlov. “Yedinaya Rossiya” gathered people for the march with the help of them paying 100 rubles to each who took part in the demonstration under tricolor Vlasovite flags. But on the whole, May 1st in Izhevsk turned out to be a mobilization of forces in the struggle for socialism.
Intensified Worldwide Movement against Imperialists' Destabilization Operations Called for
Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- The imperialists' crafty moves to destabilize other countries are bound to go to bust only when the revolutionary parties and people intensify the revolutionary offensive in close unity, says Rodong Sinmun Saturday in a signed article. The imperialists regard it as the main purpose of their destabilization operations to degenerate the sound mentality of the people in the revolutionary and progressive countries, the article says, noting that bourgeois ideological and cultural poisoning and psychological warfare are the craftiest and most vicious methods employed by the imperialists recently for destabilization operations. The article goes on: The imperialists are employing very crafty and diverse methods of psychological warfare to mentally degenerate people in the anti-imperialist and independent countries. They include bribing operations, noisy propaganda offensive by use of hi-tech weapons, threatening and blackmailing operations and false broadcasting offensive through such modern communications network as e-mail and cellular phones. Its typical example is "gunboat diplomacy" aimed to strike people with terror in a bid to make them obedient to them. The U.S. warlike forces' moves against the DPRK are a link in the whole chain of such moves. The U.S. seeks to mentally browbeat the army and people of the DPRK and bring them to their knees through reckless moves for confrontation and war against the DPRK. It is precisely for this reason that they have conducted ceaseless large-scale exercises for a nuclear war after amassing troops equipped with nuclear weapons in south Korea and its vicinity. The imperialists' crafty destabilization operations are a product of their serious crisis, the article says, adding that the U.S. strong-arm and hegemonic policy is strongly rebuffed and protested worldwide. What is important for foiling their destabilization operations is to have a correct understanding of imperialism and take a tough stand and attitude towards it and bolster one's own military capacity. The revolutionary parties and people should never allow the imperialists' bourgeois ideological and cultural poisoning but intensify the international movement to foil their crafty bribery, noisy false propaganda, vicious threatening and blackmailing operations and other psychological warfare, concludes the article.

Sinchon Indicts
In the period of the Fatherland Liberation War (June 1950-July 1953) the US imperialists massacred innocent people in all parts of Korea where they set foot.
During the temporary strategic retreat of the Korean People’s Army the GIs slaughtered people by all kinds of unimaginable methods in Sinchon County, South Hwanghae Province.
These murderers arrested 900-odd people, imprisoned them in the former office building of the Sinchon County Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, terribly tortured them, took off all their clothes and covered their heads with them, bound them by fours and fives, pushed them into an air-raid shelter, sprayed gasoline upon them through an airhole, threw glass-bottle grenades, and thus killed all of them.
Harrison, the officer of the US troops occupying Sinchon, chattered that it was too happy a thing for the children to be with their mothers, separated them from their mothers, confined the mothers and the children in separate powder magazines to make them be frozen or starved to death.
On the day when they were driven out of Sinchon by the counteroffensive of the KPA, the US imperialists spread gasoline over the magazine and set it on fire, killing all the remaining mothers and children.
The powder magazine in Wonam-ri where 400 mothers and 102 children were mercilessly killed is a place that indicts the unpardonable killing atrocities of the US imperialists.
They limbed a man and buried him alive for the sole reason that he was an active peasant and stripped a woman of her clothes and dragged her along the street before killing her for the reason that she was the wife of KPA soldier. In this way they killed 35 383 innocent people, one fourth of the population of the Sinchon County at that time, during the two months of their occupation of the county.
The US imperialists, who massacred innocent people in the most brutal ways unprecedented in the war history of the world, are the sworn enemy of the Korean people.
All the Korean people boil with surging indignation against the US imperialists who have imposed all sorts of misfortunes and sufferings upon them for more than 100 years and will further cement self-defence capacities.

Removal of Source of War Urged
Pyongyang, June 30 (KCNA) -- In order to ensure peace in the Korean Peninsula and achieve the country's peaceful reunification, it is important to reject the moves for aggression and war and remove the danger of war. Rodong Sinmun today observes this in a signed article. The constant source of war in the peninsula is nothing but the U.S. military presence in south Korea and the south Korean puppets' reckless policy of war against the DPRK, the article points out, and says: The warlike forces of the U.S. are still pursuing the anachronistic hostile policy towards the DPRK in disregard of the trend of dialogue and peace and, on this basis, stepping up on a full scale the preparations for invasion of the DPRK. The U.S. imperialist aggression forces in south Korea are the main source in aggravating the military tension and bringing the danger of a nuclear war to the peninsula. Lasting peace in the Korean Peninsula can not be achieved unless an end is put to the U.S. hostile policy towards the DPRK and its military occupation of south Korea. The anti-national confrontation and war moves of the south Korean puppets servile to the aggressor outsiders remain the main factor of threatening peace in the peninsula. Nothing is more precious than peace for the Korean nation who has been exposed to the constant danger of war for over half a century. To remove the source of war in the Korean Peninsula is essential for the independent reunification, peace and prosperity. The entire Korean nation should turn out under the banner of peace against war in the struggle to smash every reckless move of the warlike forces at home and abroad with the might of the idea of "By our nation itself" and accelerate the trend of the times towards independent reunification, peace and prosperity. All the Koreans in the north and the south and overseas should more courageously rise up in the struggle to frustrate the aggression and war moves of the bellicose forces at home and abroad and achieve lasting peace in the Korean Peninsula and bring about earlier the independent reunification.

Papers Call for Strengthened Single-minded Unity around WPK
Pyongyang, June 19 (KCNA) -- Leading newspapers today dedicate editorials to the 44th anniversary of General Secretary Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. The editorials call on all the people to unite as one in mind around the WPK and glorify the new era of prosperity of the country. Kim Jong Il's start of work at the WPK Central Committee was a historic event of most weighty significance in the efforts for carrying forward and accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche and building a prosperous and powerful country, Rodong Sinmun says, and goes on: His leadership over the party work provided a sure guarantee for developing our party, army and state into the eternal party, army and state of President Kim Il Sung and opened up a rosy prospect for the Korean revolution. The past 40 odd years of his leadership over the party and the revolution are glorious annals woven with the most brilliant victories and heroic events, enormous creation and changes ever in the history of our country. Under his guidance radical changes have been brought in political, military, economic, cultural and all other fields and the dignity and position of the DPRK have been put on the highest plane. The history of Kim Jong Il's guidance over the revolution is the sacred history in which he has set a brilliant model of the times in carrying forward the idea and cause of leader. It is the history of the legendary illustrious commander, who has built up the invincible military power to firmly defend the destiny of the country and the nation and socialism, and emotion-charged annals in which he brought about ceaseless upsurge in building a prosperous and powerful country through tremendous creation and changes. It is the greatest happiness and highest honor of our army and people to have Kim Jong Il at the head of the party and the revolution, the daily says, calling for fully displaying the invincible stamina of Songun Korea and bringing about a fresh turn in the building of a great prosperous powerful nation under his leadership. Minju Joson calls upon all the people to closely rally in mind around Kim Jong Il and work hard under the banner of Songun and thus become honorable victors in the general offensive for building a great prosperous powerful nation.

Reflections by comrade Fidel
THE UNITED STATES, EUROPE AND HUMAN RIGHTS
The discredited way in which the European Union suspended its sanctions on Cuba on June 19 has been reported in 16 international press dispatches. It has absolutely no economic effect on our country. On the contrary, the United States' extraterritorial laws and, thus, its economic and financial blockade are still fully in effect.
At my age and with my state of health, one cannot be sure of the time one has left to live. Nevertheless, I want to express my contempt towards the immense hypocrisy of that decision. Such hypocrisy is made all the more evident by the brutal European measure to expel illegal immigrants from Latin American countries, some of which have populations which, in their majority, are of European origin. Immigrants are also the fruit of colonial, semi-colonial and capitalist exploitation.
In the name of human rights, Cuba is asked to grant impunity to those who would bind the feet and hands of the homeland and its people and hand them over to imperialism.
Even Mexican authorities have to admit that the Miami-based mob, at the service of the U.S. government, used force to snatch from the hands of an important contingent of migratory agents, or bought, dozens of illegal immigrants who had been arrested in Quintana Roo, including innocent children transported by force across risk-laden seas and mothers obliged to emigrate. Traffickers of human beings, like drug traffickers, who take advantage of the largest and most coveted of the world’s markets, have undermined the authority and moral statute needed by any government to lead the State, spilling Latin American blood everywhere, to say nothing of those who die trying to emigrate by climbing over the humiliating border wall erected over what was once Mexican territory.
The food and energy crises, climate change and inflation are scourging the world's nations. As political helplessness prevails, ignorance and illusions tend to flourish. Not one of these governments, let alone those of the Czech Republic and Sweden, which were firmly opposed to the European Union’s decision, was able to give coherent answers to the questions that have been put on the table.
All the while, in Cuba, the mercenaries and traitors at the empire's service are at their wit’s end and throw up their hands in horror in defense of the rights to treachery and impunity.
I have many more things to say, but let this suffice for today. It is not my intention to trouble others with these words, but, as I am alive, I continue to think about these things.
I shall publish this reflection on the Internet only, today, June 20, 2008.

The U.S. seeks to mentally browbeat the army and people of the DPRK and bring them to their knees through reckless moves for confrontation and war against the DPRK.
